Early childhood education and care services can support children’s development and growth, and promote good eating habits through the foods and drinks they provide to them.
Through its professional advice, the ACT Nutrition Support Service can support staff and management to give children the best start in life.

Nutrition Australia ACT provides evidence-based nutrition information for early childhood services.

Our services are delivered by Accredited Practising Dietitians (APDs) experienced in early childhood nutrition.

Nutrition and Food Handling Course

This two-hour in-service tailored for early childhood staff will help your facility meet the food and nutrition elements of The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia (EYLF) and NQS requirements outlined in Elements 2.1.3 and 2.2.1 under Quality Area 2: Children’s health and safety.

We will visit your facility and present the nutrition and food handling course for up to 25 staff members. Topics covered in the course include:

Menu Assessments

For childcare centres that provide food, this service helps ensure nutritional requirements for children based on the:

Menu assessments are based on recommendations outlined by the NQS.

Desktop Menu Assessment

An APD will assess your childcare menu based on the submitted menu and recipes.

Site Visit Menu Assessment

We will provide a one-on-one consultation at your facility to ensure your service meets the food and nutrition elements of the NQS.

We will visit your facility and provide practical advice for parents of infants, toddlers and young children.

Lunchbox Seminars

This one-hour session provides practical advice and inspiration for parents on packing a healthy lunchbox for their infants, toddler and young children.

Interactive Lunchbox Workshops

A 30-minute workshop where parents will prepare a healthy lunchbox for their child using a selection of healthy fresh and pre-packaged, budget and lunchbox-friendly items.

Arrange to have the workshop in the morning so parents can come in to fill their child’s lunchbox for the day!

Cooking Demonstrations

We will visit your facility and deliver a one-hour practical demonstration using quick, easy and nutritious recipes guaranteed to please the fussiest of eaters.

Parents and carers will have the opportunity to discuss their nutrition concerns and ask questions.
