What is Healthier Choices Canberra?

Healthier Choices Canberra (HCC) is an initiative of ACT Government that works with businesses to identify and promote healthier products and meals — taking the guess work out for customers. 

Why does HCC exist?

HCC is designed to make it easier for all Canberrans to find healthier food and drink options at clubs, restaurants, cafes,

 supermarkets and entertainment venues. 

How can I find a participating HCC business?

Look for the HCC branding in the window of your favourite clubs, restaurants, cafes, supermarkets and entertainment venues. Alternatively, you can find a participating business near you by visiting the HCC map. These venues will sell healthier choice ite

What is a healthier choice item?

A healthier choice item is one that meets our recommendations. You will find that most healthier choice items will contain healthy ingredients such as vegetables and/or fruit and be limited in less nutritious ingredients such as deep-fried items, processed meats and confectionary.

Who identifies the heathier choices?

A team of Accredited Practising Dietitians from the ACT Nutrition Support Service assess every food and drink item and identify the healthier options using a evidence-based criterias. This method means you can rely on Healthier Choices Canberra when purchasing food and drinks for you and your family.

How will I know which item is a healthier choice item?

In the eating out venues, you may notice a 'HC' symbol on the menu to show you the healthier choice items. 

In the supermarkets, you will see shelf tags and stickers to help you select a healthier choice item.
